Jerry Lee Gasner, age 72, of Janesville, WI died on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his home after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Jerry was born May 18th, 1945 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to the late Earl and Alice (Knutson) Gasner. Jerry’s baptism took place at his Grandfather Knutson’s home in Cambridge, WI on July 25, 1945. Jerry was confirmed at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Waterloo, WI, May 17, 1959 and graduated from St John’s Lutheran School May 28, 1959. Raised on a farm in rural Waterloo. Jerry showed his grand champion Jersey cows at several county fairs. Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Waterloo High School, Waterloo, WI, as the Salutatorian of his class. He attended UW Whitewater and then was drafted in the US Army during the Viet Nam conflict. Jerry was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a member of the Waterloo American Legion Post 233. On November 27, 1971 Jerry was united in marriage to Beverly Ring Wedeward at St Johns Ev. Lutheran Church in Waterloo, WI. Jerry began his working career in the meat industry at the Kress Packing Company in Waterloo. He was then employed at various meat packing plants in Verona, Manitowoc, and lastly at Vista International Packaging in Kenosha Wi. Jerry was Vice President of Technical Services and traveled the world while at Vista. Upon Jerry’s retirement from Vista in October 2011 Jerry and Bev moved to a hobby farm near Janesville, WI. Jerry enjoyed his Simplicity lawn tractor maintaining a pristine lawn. Jerry was someone who could fix/build almost anything and used his mechanical skills to restore several collector cars. His specialty was cooking breakfast and grilling for his family. Jerry also enjoyed making lefse during the holidays. Jerry was a loyal Green Bay Packer, Wisconsin Badger, and NASCAR fan. Survivors include his wife, Beverly; son, James M. Gasner; daughter, Jennifer Gasner (Greg Jones); San Diego, CA.; Stepchildren, Beth (Jim) Poad, Janesville; Brenda Wedeward, Lodi Wi.; Mark Wedeward Lodi WI. Brother Keith (Kay) Gasner, Sister Linda (John) Alberts. Grandchildren Alex and Matt Poad and Raven Wedeward, Nephews John Palmer, David Ring, Rick (Sadye) Ring. Nieces Kris Gasner, Lisa(Mike) Rotzoll, and Suzanne Ring. Great nephews Caleb and Benjamin Rotzoll and Kaden and Kameron Ring, and sister-in-law Mary Ring and cousins and friends. He was preceeded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Minetta Ring, brother-in-law David Ring Sr., sister-in-law and brother-in-law Darlene and David Palmer. Special thanks to Dr. M. Khan, the oncology department at Mercy Hospital, all the nurses and CNAs from Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care, Pastor James Janke who provided compassionate care to Jerry. Family suggests memorials be made to St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church or Agrace Hospice of Janesville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 709 Milton Ave., Janesville with Rev. James Janke will officiate. Visitation will be held at the Church Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.. Graveside services with military rites by Waterloo American Legion Post # 233 will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Washington Cemetery, Waterloo, WI. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, Janesville.
